Making The Future Possible

Sustainable building method that goes beyond Net Zero

Hemp building methods are an established system in much of the world and we here at Village Carpentry are looking forward to using them in New England.

Conventional homes have a huge environmental impact and by using natural materials like hemp you can help to store carbon and counteract the emissions normally associated with the construction trade.

The First Hemp home in Massachusettes!

This home is in Goshen  and we are building this as an example home for people to see what this material is really like.

This home is a 1600 Sq. Ft.  Timber Framed house built by the crew of Village Carpentry on a foundation system that has 70% less concrete than the standard system.

Hempcrete is fireproof and healthy

Here is a fire test that we performed using a glass blowing torch at the start of our foray into this material.

Not only is it fireproof but it helps to eliminate other building materials form the building that are full of toxic chemicals. Hempcrete is based on lime so it is naturally antimicrobial so there is a reduced risk of mold in your home. Also the walls are monolithic so you won't have small furry housemates to worry about.
